Wireless Network Systems

A wireless network operates through wireless data connections between network nodes, eliminating the need for physical cables.

This method is cost-effective for homes, telecom networks, and businesses, relying on radio communication at the OSI model's physical layer.

Examples include cell phone networks, WLANs, wireless sensor networks, satellite communication, and terrestrial microwave networks.

Wireless networks are classified into three types:

  1. Wireless Wide Area Networks (WWAN): Utilise mobile phone signals for connectivity, even when traditional network access is unavailable.

  2. Wireless Local Area Networks (WLAN): Employ radio waves and access points to connect wireless users to wired networks, spanning from single rooms to entire campuses.

  3. Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN): Use Bluetooth technology to connect compatible devices within short ranges, typically around 30 feet, ideal for interconnecting devices near a central location.
